Is it worth the drive from Islamabad for an implant?
Most people who message us from Islamabad ask the same question first: is it worth the drive for an implant? Our honest answer is that an implant is the treatment where the drive matters least and the dentist matters most. It is minor surgery, it stays in your jaw for decades, and a straightforward single implant needs only a few trips. What you want is a dentist who is trained to place it, who tells you plainly whether you need it at all, and a clinic that will still be here in twenty years.
We have been doing this work since 1984, when Prof. Dr Amjad Mahmood opened Dental Plus a year after qualifying. Today our implants are placed by Dr Ahmad Mahmood, our lead consultant, and the crown on top can be planned by Dr Hafsa, our consultant prosthodontist. One team follows your tooth from the first X-ray to the final crown, under one roof.
We will also tell you what we do not do. We place single-tooth implants. If you are missing several teeth or a whole arch, we say so at the consultation and talk you through bridges and dentures instead of stretching beyond our own work.
The Dental Plus team
Who will treat you, and how
An implant has two parts that need different skills: the surgery that places the post in your jawbone, and the crown you see and chew with. Here is who does what.
- Places your implant
Dr Ahmad Mahmood
BDS, MDS Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry, C-Implantology
Examines you, reads your X-rays, decides with you whether the tooth can be saved, places the implant under local anaesthetic and follows the healing.
An MDS is a postgraduate specialist degree. His field is saving teeth (endodontics) and rebuilding them (restorative dentistry), and C-Implantology is his training in implant surgery. Because he does root canals and implants, you hear an honest comparison, not a sales pitch for either.
Full profile - Plans your crown
Dr Hafsa
BDS, FCPS, Consultant Prosthodontist
Plans the crown that sits on the implant: the material, the shade and the shape, so it fits your bite and does not stand out from the teeth beside it.
Prosthodontics is the specialty that replaces teeth. The FCPS is earned through years of supervised specialist training and exams with the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan.
Full profile - Founded the clinic in 1984
Prof. Dr Amjad Mahmood
BDS, FDS RCSEd (UK), FDTFEd, MHPE
Your implant is placed by Dr Ahmad. Prof. Dr Amjad Mahmood opened Dental Plus in 1984, a year after qualifying, and his name is still on our signboard.
A Fellow in Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Dean of Postgraduate Studies at Margalla College of Dentistry and a two-term President of the Pakistan Association of Orthodontists.

What we do
- Single-tooth implants, front or back teeth
- The crown on the implant, planned and fitted at the same clinic
- Root canals and re-treatments, when your own tooth can still be saved
- Extractions, when a tooth truly cannot be kept
- X-rays before any decision, so you know about your bone before you commit
What we don't
- Full-arch or All-on-4 treatment: we explain dentures and bridges instead
- Implants placed before your gums and bone are checked
- A price before an examination: every quote is itemised after X-rays
Why Islamabad patients choose us
There are good dentists closer to many parts of Islamabad. These are the reasons people still make the trip to Bahria Town for an implant. 127 patients rate us 4.8 on Google.
Since 1984
More than forty years under the same name. An implant lasts decades, so the clinic that placed it should still be here when you need a check-up.
We try to save your tooth first
Dr Ahmad is an endodontist as well as implant-trained. If a root canal can keep your own tooth, he tells you, even though it is the smaller treatment.
A prosthodontist for the crown
The part of the implant everyone sees is the crown. Dr Hafsa, our FCPS prosthodontist, can plan it to match your bite and your other teeth.
Open 24/7 for aftercare
Swelling or pain after surgery does not keep office hours. We are open day and night, Sundays included, 17 minutes from DHA Phase 2.
The full price before anything starts
Implant, abutment, crown and any extras, itemised after your examination, so the cost does not change halfway through.
Visits planned around your drive
Tell us you are coming from Islamabad and we plan the fewest trips your case allows. Evenings are a good time to come, when the Expressway is quieter.
Your drive from Islamabad
We are at 4-A, Bahria Heights, near PSO petrol station, 3 Extension, Phase 4, Bahria Town, Rawalpindi. These are Google Maps daytime estimates from each area; each area has its own page with directions and local advice.
| From | Distance | Drive | Route |
|---|---|---|---|
| DHA Phase 2 | 9.6 km | ~17 min | Jinnah Boulevard |
| Jinnah Garden | 9.2 km | ~24 min | Main PWD Road |
| Naval Anchorage | 11.2 km | ~26 min | Naval Anchorage Road |
| DHA Phase 5 | 17 km | ~26 min | GT Road (N-5) |
| F sectors | 26 km | ~44 min | Islamabad Expressway |
| G sectors | 26 km | ~45 min | Islamabad Expressway |
Closer still? See our page for PWD Housing Scheme. For an implant, the drive is a few trips spread over several months, which is why we suggest coming in the evening when the roads are quieter.
Your implant, visit by visit
For a straightforward single implant, the main trips are three: consultation, placement and the crown. A bone graft or a check after surgery can add one or two; you hear how many at the first visit. Each step is explained in more depth in our dental implants guide.
Consultation and X-rays
Dr Ahmad checks your gums, your bone and the teeth either side, and tells you whether the tooth can be saved. If an implant is the right choice, you get the plan and an itemised quote.
One visit
Placing the implant
The area is numbed, a small opening is made in the gum and the implant is placed in the bone. The gum is closed with stitches.
One visit
Healing at home
The gum settles in about a week. Over the next 3 to 9 months the bone grows onto the implant (osseointegration). A temporary tooth can cover a front gap.
3 to 9 months
The crown
A connector called an abutment is attached and your crown is fitted. The fitting usually takes about an hour.
About an hour
Check-ups
Look after it like a natural tooth, with brushing, cleaning between the teeth and regular check-ups.
Ongoing
Before an implant: can your tooth be saved?
An implant is the best replacement for a missing tooth, but your own tooth is better still. Many teeth that look lost can be kept with a root canal and a crown, including teeth whose first root canal failed elsewhere. Dr Ahmad's specialist degree is in exactly this work, so the first thing he looks for on your X-ray is whether the tooth can stay.
If it cannot, we take it out gently and plan the implant. If you are still deciding between an implant, a bridge and a denture, our missing tooth guide compares all three.
Are you a good candidate?
Your examination and X-rays confirm it. In general, an implant suits people with:
- Healthy gums, or gum disease treated first
- Enough jawbone to hold the implant, or a bone graft first
- Aged 18 or over; there is no upper age limit
- Not smoking or vaping, which make failure more likely
- Diabetes, if you have it, well controlled
What an implant costs
Prices are the same whether you live in Rawalpindi or Islamabad. These are Marham's 2026 averages for Pakistan. We give you our own itemised quote after your examination and X-rays, because the price depends on your bone and which tooth it is.

How long implants last, and the risks
Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust says about 90% of implants placed ten years ago are still present and working. A 2019 review in the Journal of Dentistry, pooling 18 studies, put 10-year survival at 96.4%, or 93.2% in a more cautious analysis. The implant itself can last a lifetime; the crown on top usually lasts around 15 years.
Smoking, unmanaged diabetes and untreated gum disease all raise the risk of failure, which is why we check for them first. In rare cases an implant never fuses with the bone, and over the years gum inflammation around it (peri-implantitis) can develop, so regular check-ups matter.

Questions from Islamabad patients
Is Dental Plus in Islamabad?
We are at 4-A Bahria Heights, Bahria Town Phase 4, which is in Rawalpindi. Many people know the area as Bahria Town Islamabad, and our Google reviews use both names. From DHA Phase 2 we are about 17 minutes by car, from Jinnah Garden about 24, and from F-7 or G-9 about 45 in daytime traffic.
How many trips will I need from Islamabad?
For a straightforward single implant, the main trips are three: the consultation and X-rays, placing the implant, and fitting the crown 3 to 9 months later. A bone graft, a check after surgery or a temporary tooth can add visits. We tell you how many at the first appointment.
Who places the implant?
Dr Ahmad Mahmood, our lead consultant. He holds a BDS, an MDS in Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry, and C-Implantology training in implant surgery.
Who plans the crown on my implant?
Dr Hafsa, our FCPS prosthodontist, can plan the crown so it fits your bite and matches your other teeth. The crown is fitted at the same clinic.
Can you replace several teeth or a full mouth with implants?
We place single-tooth implants. If you are missing several teeth or a whole arch, we will say so at the consultation and go through the other options with you, including bridges and dentures.
How much does a dental implant cost?
Marham's 2026 figures put one implant with a crown at PKR 100,000 to 180,000 with a Korean implant and PKR 180,000 to 370,000 with a Swiss one. Our dental implant cost guide compares clinic prices in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. We give you an itemised quote after examining you and taking X-rays.
Does getting an implant hurt?
The area is numbed, so you shouldn't feel pain during the procedure. Some discomfort and swelling afterwards is normal, and over-the-counter painkillers help.
What if I have a problem after surgery and I live in Islamabad?
Call or WhatsApp us at any hour: we are open 24/7. Contact us straight away if the implant feels loose, the gum bleeds, swells or has pus, or you have a fever.
Can my own tooth be saved instead?
Often, yes, and that is usually the better choice. Dr Ahmad is an endodontist, so he checks whether a root canal can keep your tooth before recommending an implant.
Do I need a bone graft?
Only if your X-rays show there is not enough bone to hold the implant. A graft adds time and cost, and you will know before you commit to anything.
How long does a dental implant last?
Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust says about 90% of implants are still working after 10 years, and a 2019 review in the Journal of Dentistry put 10-year survival at 96.4%. The crown on top usually lasts around 15 years.
Can I come in the evening?
Yes. We are open 24 hours a day, and patients from Islamabad often find the drive shorter in the evening, when the Expressway is quieter.
