What veneers can fix
Veneers cover the visible front of a tooth, so they change how it looks without crowning the whole tooth. They are used for:
- Chipped or broken front teeth
- Gaps between the front teeth
- Stains that teeth whitening won't lift
- Teeth that are too small for your smile
- Teeth that are misshapen or uneven in length
Veneers are not an option while there is extensive decay or gum disease. Those are treated first, so the veneers sit on healthy teeth and gums.
Types of veneers compared
There are three main kinds. Which one suits you depends on how much you want to change and how healthy the teeth are.
| Porcelain | Composite | Minimal-prep | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it is made | Custom-made in a dental lab | Tooth-coloured resin, shaped on the tooth | Custom-made in a lab, thinner |
| Enamel removed | Some | Varies with the case | Less, but still some |
| Visits | Usually 2 | Often 1 | Usually 2 |
| Best for | Bigger changes to shape and colour, several teeth | Milder cosmetic problems | Suitable cases only; not everyone qualifies |
Removable, clip-on veneers are also sold. They can be taken out at any time, but they can make eating difficult, may affect your speech, and there is little research on them. If you are considering them, have a dentist check that they are safe for your teeth.
How our dentists manage it
How we manage your veneers
Listen first
We ask what you'd like to change about your smile, and tell you honestly what veneers can and can't do.
Healthy teeth first
Any decay or gum disease is treated before veneers, and Dr Ahmad checks the teeth underneath, so the result lasts.
The least invasive option
If whitening or bonding gives you the result, we suggest that before removing any enamel. If veneers are right, you see the plan and the cost first.
Shade and shape agreed with you
We check colour, shape and fit with you before bonding, then adjust your bite before you leave.
How much do veneers cost in Rawalpindi?
Most published prices in Rawalpindi and Islamabad fall between PKR 25,000 and 60,000 per tooth, with premium porcelain costing more. These are the figures other clinics and a health directory list:
| Source | Composite | Porcelain |
|---|---|---|
| Marham directory, Rawalpindi | PKR 25,000 to 60,000 (all types) | Not listed separately |
| Dynamic Clinic, Islamabad | PKR 19,999 to 49,999 | PKR 24,999 to 49,999 |
| Glamorous Aesthetic Clinic, Islamabad | PKR 25,000 to 45,000 | PKR 45,000 to 120,000 |
What moves the price is the material, how many teeth are done, the lab, and whether you need cleaning, fillings or gum treatment first. Six veneers across the front cost six times one. At Dental Plus we examine your teeth and give you our price in writing before anything starts.
What a fair veneer quote should include
Whichever clinic you choose, ask for a quote that names:
- How many teeth, and the material for each: porcelain or composite
- Any treatment needed first, such as a clean, fillings or gum treatment
- Whether temporary veneers are included while the lab makes yours
- Follow-up visits, and what happens if a veneer comes loose
- Who will plan and fit the veneers, and their qualifications
How porcelain veneers are fitted, step by step
- 01Consultation: we check your teeth and gums, take X-rays where needed, and talk about the result you want. If whitening or bonding would get you there, we say so.
- 02Preparation: the tooth is numbed and a small amount of enamel is removed from the front, so the veneer sits flush. Impressions are taken for the lab.
- 03The lab: making the veneers takes a few weeks. Temporary veneers can be fitted in the meantime if you need them.
- 04Fitting: we check the shape, colour and fit with you first, then bond each veneer with dental cement and adjust your bite.
- 05Afterwards: there is no downtime. You can eat and drink once the anaesthetic wears off.
Composite bonding: the one-visit alternative
Bonding uses tooth-coloured resin to reshape a tooth, close small gaps, cover chips and cracks, or hide discolouration. The surface of the tooth is roughened, the resin is moulded on, hardened with a curing light and polished.
It takes 30 to 60 minutes per tooth, is usually done in one visit, needs little or no enamel removed and can be undone. The trade-off is that it stains more easily than porcelain, can chip, and lasts about 3 to 10 years before it needs touching up.
Veneers, bonding, whitening or a crown?
- A small chip or gap you want fixed in one visit: bonding is often enough
- Several front teeth to change in shape and colour, for a longer-lasting result: veneers
- Teeth that are just darker than you'd like: teeth whitening first, because veneers can't be whitened later
- A tooth that is badly broken, weakened or root-filled: a crown, which covers the whole tooth
- Crooked or crowded teeth: braces or aligners move the teeth themselves, with no enamel removed
Looking after veneers
- Brush twice a day with a soft brush and a non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste, and floss once a day
- Avoid whitening products, which can scratch veneers
- Cut hard or crunchy food and chew it with your back teeth
- Don't use your teeth to open packets, or bite nails and pens
- Cut down on tea, coffee and other dark food and drink, which stain over time
- Keep up regular check-ups and cleans. The natural tooth under a veneer can still decay
Risks to know about
- Porcelain veneers need some enamel removed, which does not grow back
- Teeth can be more sensitive to hot and cold afterwards
- A veneer can come loose and need re-bonding
- The natural tooth underneath can still decay
- Bonding can chip, and it stains more easily than porcelain
Veneers are cosmetic, so they aren't usually covered by insurance. We go through the risks and the cost of each option before you decide.
Who treats you
Veneers at Dental Plus
Prof. Dr Amjad Mahmood opened Dental Plus in Rawalpindi in 1984, and the rule for cosmetic work has not changed since: the least invasive option that gives you the result you want is usually the right one. If something simpler will do the job, we say so.
Veneers at Dental Plus are planned by Dr Ahmad Mahmood (BDS, MDS Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry) and Dr Hafsa, our FCPS consultant prosthodontist. Because Dr Ahmad is also a root canal specialist, he checks that the teeth underneath are healthy before anything is covered.
You see the plan, the number of visits and the cost before you decide. If whitening or bonding will give you the result you want, we tell you before any enamel is removed.

Common questions about veneers
How much do veneers cost in Rawalpindi?
Published prices in Rawalpindi and Islamabad mostly run from PKR 25,000 to 60,000 per tooth (Marham), with premium porcelain listed at up to PKR 120,000 per tooth by some Islamabad clinics. At Dental Plus you get our written price after an examination, before anything starts.
How long do veneers last?
Around 10 to 15 years with good care and regular check-ups.
Are veneers permanent?
Most are. Porcelain veneers need some enamel removed, which does not grow back, so the tooth will always need a veneer or crown afterwards. Bonding is the more reversible option.
Do veneers damage teeth?
Veneers don't damage teeth by themselves, but you lose some enamel, teeth can be more sensitive to hot and cold afterwards, and the natural tooth underneath can still decay, so cleaning and check-ups still matter.
Porcelain or composite veneers: which is better?
Porcelain is made in a lab, resists stains better and suits bigger changes. Composite is shaped on the tooth, often in one visit, and suits milder problems. We tell you which fits your teeth after an examination.
How many visits do veneers take?
Porcelain veneers usually take two visits a few weeks apart: one to prepare the teeth and take impressions, and one to bond the finished veneers. Composite veneers are often done in one.
Who does veneers at Dental Plus?
Dr Ahmad Mahmood (MDS, Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry) and Dr Hafsa, our FCPS consultant prosthodontist.
Can veneers be whitened?
No. Whitening only works on natural teeth, and whitening products can scratch veneers. If you want whiter teeth overall, whiten first, then match the veneers to the new shade.
Do veneers stain?
Porcelain resists stains better than resin. Composite veneers and bonding pick up stains more easily, so it helps to cut down on tea, coffee and smoking.
Can bonding close gaps between teeth?
Small gaps, yes. Bonding can reshape teeth and close small spaces, usually in one visit.
Is there any downtime after veneers?
No. You can go back to your normal day straight away, and eat and drink once the anaesthetic wears off.
Are clip-on veneers a good idea?
They can be removed at any time, but they can make eating difficult, may affect speech, and there is little research on them. Ask a dentist to check them for your teeth first.
