Questions for Dr Hafsa

Do I need a crown or a veneer?

A crown covers the whole tooth, so it suits a tooth that is badly broken or weakened. A veneer covers only the front, so it suits a tooth that is healthy but the wrong shape or colour. Our veneers and bonding guide compares them.

How long does a crown last?

Usually 5 to 15 years, and well looked-after crowns can last much longer. Brushing, cleaning between the teeth and a night guard if you grind all help. See crowns and bridges.

My denture is loose. Does it need replacing?

Not always. Gums and jawbone slowly change shape, so dentures loosen over time and can often be relined. If a denture clicks, slips or rubs, it is worth having it checked. More in our dentures guide.
