Your child's first visit
The first appointments are short. We check how the teeth are coming through and let your child get used to the chair. We also show you how to brush their teeth at home.
How much fluoride toothpaste to use
- Under 3: a smear of toothpaste with at least 1,000ppm fluoride
- 3 to 6 years: a pea-sized amount, with 1,000 to 1,500ppm fluoride
- 7 and over: toothpaste with 1,350 to 1,500ppm fluoride
Brush twice a day for about two minutes, including last thing at night. Children should spit the toothpaste out but not rinse, so the fluoride keeps working. Brush for children under 3, supervise 3 to 6 year olds, and keep an eye on older children even when they brush on their own.
How our dentists manage it
How we manage your children's dentistry
Keep first visits short
Early appointments are mostly about getting comfortable with the chair and with us.
Watch development
We look at how the teeth are coming through and, as your child grows, how they are lining up.
Prevent before treating
Fluoride varnish and fissure sealants protect the teeth, and we show you how to brush them at home.
Plan check-ups with you
We suggest how often your child should come, at least once a year, and you can book family appointments together.
Fluoride varnish and fissure sealants
Fluoride varnish is painted onto the teeth to strengthen the enamel. From age 3, children should have it at least twice a year.
Fissure sealants are a thin plastic coating over the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. They are usually applied when the permanent back teeth come through: around age 6 or 7, and again between 11 and 14. They protect the teeth for up to 4 years.
Treatment for children at Dental Plus
- Check-ups at least once a year
- Fluoride and fissure sealants
- Fillings for milk teeth when they need it
- An early look at how the teeth are lining up, with our orthodontists if braces may be needed later
Helping your child feel at ease
Early visits are kept short and calm, with time for your child to get used to the chair before anything else happens. If your child is nervous, tell us when you book and we'll take things slowly.
Who treats you
Children's Dentistry at Dental Plus
Many families have been coming to us for years, and parents, children and grandparents can all be seen here. A child can grow up with the same clinic their parents use.
You can book your child's check-up alongside your own, so the family can come in together.

Common questions about children's dentistry
When should my child first see a dentist?
When their first milk teeth appear, or before they are 12 months old.
How much toothpaste should a toddler use?
Under 3s need only a smear of toothpaste with at least 1,000ppm fluoride. From 3 to 6, use a pea-sized amount.
What are fissure sealants?
A thin plastic coating over the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, usually applied around age 6 or 7 and again at 11 to 14. They protect the teeth for up to 4 years.
Should my child rinse after brushing?
No. Spit the toothpaste out but don't rinse, so the fluoride keeps working.
When can my child brush on their own?
Children aged 7 and over can usually brush their own teeth, but it's still a good idea to watch them. Brush for children under 3, and supervise 3 to 6 year olds.

How this guide was made
Dental Plus, a family dental clinic in Bahria Town, Rawalpindi, publishes this guide. It was drafted with the help of AI writing tools. Every medical statement was then checked against the sources below, last on 6 October 2026. What we say about our own clinic, our dentists and how we treat patients comes from the clinic. Patient quotes are copied word for word from Google reviews.
